Orangetheory Fitness

An illuminated channel letter set for Orangetheory Fitness at Lincoln Center in Stockton, centered on the red brick tower over the studio's arched entrance on Pacific Avenue.

About This Project

Orangetheory runs heart-rate-based group workouts, and its Stockton studio sits in Lincoln Center, the shopping center on Pacific Avenue, behind a red brick entry tower with a cream cornice and a tall arched opening. The tower is the one spot on the frontage that faces the parking lot square on and rises above the neighboring storefronts, so that is where the sign went. In a crowded fitness market, a studio's sign is often the first thing a prospective member judges it by.

The set follows the brand exactly: the orange logo mark, a ring with small circles radiating from it, joined to the orangetheory name in orange-red lowercase letters, with FITNESS spelled out in smaller, widely spaced dark letters underneath. It sits centered in the brick field between the cornice and the arch, above the lanterns and potted trees that flank the entrance. The letters read across the lot by day, and lit at night they keep the entrance easy to find after dark.

National brands come with strict sign standards for color, proportion and spacing. Channel letters are the usual way to meet them on a storefront like this, because each letter and logo piece is built to the brand's artwork and mounted to fit the architecture.
